About the Guests
Greta Matassa
Four times voted the northwest’s “best jazz vocalist” by
Earshot Jazz, Greta Matassa is one of the most talented singers working
in jazz today. In demand for
concert and nightclub appearances, her one-woman show, “Ella and
Billie,” a musical tribute, won her critical acclaim. Her collaborations
and guest appearances with Spectrum Dance Theater, Pacific Northwest
Ballet, Teatro ZinZanni, the Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra and the
Seattle Men’s Chorus have been innovative and successful. Compared with
the greats, Ella Fitzgerald, Anita O’Day, and Nancy Wilson, Matassa has
become one of the hottest tickets on the northwest jazz scene. Greta has
released four CD’s and a DVD live concert. She receives regular national
airplay. More information and reviews can be found on her web site,
www.gretamatassa.com.
Andy Carr Trio
Andy Carr, piano, Dennis Staskowski, bass, and Don Berman,
drums, have performed together for over a decade in a variety of
settings. Andy and Don first hooked up in 1981, while performing in
adjacent Pioneer Square jazz clubs. Dennis came on the scene in 1995,
shortly after receiving a degree in instrumental performance from the
University of Washington. Since then the trio has worked with choral
groups and vocal jazz ensembles, and in club appearances backing Dianne
Trani at Gaspare’s Ristorante Italiano, in Seattle’s Maple Leaf
neighborhood.
Away from the trio, the members each maintain individual
musical pursuits. Andy has been a highly sought-after pianist for the
Seattle jazz and swing dance scene since 1979, as well as accompanist
for many vocalists, choral groups and musical theaters. Currently he is
the pianist for the jazz ensemble Blue Street Voices, and the Seattle
City Sextet, the Northwest’s premier tango orchestra.
Dennis performs, records, and tours with numerous Northwest
ensembles, in styles ranging from classical to jazz and world music.
Don is a regular performer in Seattle jazz clubs. His recent
collaborations include appearances with trumpeter Jim Knodle and
vocalist Dina Blade.
