From the Director
Welcome to the 26th season of Bellevue Chamber Chorus, another year of
diverse and exciting concerts for your listening pleasure. In December
we explore more of the inexhaustible riches of music for the Christmas
season in "A Child Is Born", and continue our annual performance of
Handel’s immortal Messiah with the Bellevue Philharmonic Orchestra. Our
March program, "Showtime", showcases some of the icons of American musical
theater, as well as a talented contemporary composer with an impeccable
musical pedigree. Finally, in June we are very pleased to collaborate
with the excellent Northwest Chamber Chorus for "In Tribute", two
inspiring concerts of choral masterworks
As the ensemble enters its second quarter-century of music making and I
complete a decade as artistic director, we are acutely aware that these
are challenging times for arts organizations of all kinds, and for
patrons of the arts as well. We are thankful for your continued support
of the choral art form which we all love, and we are committed, as
always, to bringing you exceptional quality and value for your artistic
dollar. Most importantly, we remain convinced of the power of great
choral music to add depth, perspective, and joy to our sometimes
turbulent lives. In that light, we look forward to sharing that music
with you again this year. See you on the downbeat!

Together with the Northwest Chamber Chorus, directed by Mark
Kloepper, the Chorus presents a stunning program of musical tribute
and remembrance. In addition to performing separately in pieces by
Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Górecki, and more, both choirs will be featured
in magnificent works for a cappella double chorus by Schumann (in
honor of his 200th anniversary year), and John Rutter (the exciting
Hymn to the Creator of Light, in memory of English composer Herbert
Howells), as well as Howells’ intimate memorial to his son: the
sublime and moving Requiem. |
