2007-2008 Subscription Series

ChristmasCelebrate the season with wonderful American holiday music ranging from early carols and spirituals to works by contemporary composers Morton Lauridsen, Edwin Fissinger, Kirke Mechem, and many more.  The program features a tribute to composer Daniel Pinkham, recently deceased, with performances of his exciting Christmas Cantata for chorus and brass (on the 50th anniversary of its composition), and other delightful pieces.  Special guests Cascadia Brass add their exciting instrumental counterpoint to the concerts.

The Poet SingsExplore the union of great poetry and music throughout the centuries and around the world with: Italian madrigals from the Renaissance and contemporary American composer William Hawley; German romantic poets as interpreted by Brahms and Schubert; Blake, Tennyson, and Shelley in Steven Chatman’s There Is Sweet Music Here with solo oboe; Whitman settings by emerging composers Aaron McDermid and John Muehleisen; and much more in this literary and musical feast!

StandardsEnjoy this tribute to classic popular songs and the singers who made them famous. The program features great hits by Hoagy Carmichael, Cole Porter, Rodgers and Hart, Duke Elllington, Burt Bacharach, and many others, as sung by Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Sara Vaughan, and more! Once again the fabulous Andy Carr Trio joins the Chorus as guest artists.
